Young Jun Kim is the co-founder and Managing Partner of LKP Global Law, LLP, a Los Angeles-based 12-lawyer boutique law firm, specializing in complex transactions and litigation.  LKP was started by lawyers, all of whom previously practiced at large international law firms, with the mission to deliver quality sophisticated service.  Mr. Kim practices corporate, securities, mergers and acquisition, and intellectual property law, and manages LKP’s corporate transactional law department. 

Mr. Kim’s experience includes initial public offerings, venture capital and private equity investments, stock and asset acquisitions, mergers, cross-border transactions, and software and other intellectual property license transactions.  He serves as the outside general counsel for companies, counseling and advising their businesses in an array of industries, including navigating through SEC and other regulatory requirements.  Mr. Kim’s clients are in software, hardware, Internet, ecommerce, security, semiconductor, online gaming, rich media, manufacturing, retail and other intellectual property focused businesses.  He started his legal career at Latham & Watkins, and previously served as the General Counsel and Senior Vice President for Video City, Inc., a publicly held retailer.  Mr. Kim also served as the in-house Corporate Counsel for LRN Corporation, a software as a service (SaaS) provider, through its industry-leading growth among its Fortune 500 customers. 

Mr. Kim’s representative corporate transaction experience includes:

  • Innovent Systems, Inc. in $500 million merger with Broadcom Corporation
  • Worldex Industry & Trading Co. Ltd in $30  million acquisition of West Coast Quartz Corporation
  • Airborne Biometrics Group, Inc. investment by Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors, L.P.
  • Ostendo Technologies, Inc. acquisitions of Blue Photonics, Inc. and Technologies and Devices International, Inc.
  • OSI Systems, Inc. $50 million initial public offering on NASDAQ
  • New Pride Corporation’s $12 million initial public offering on KOSDAQ, the first initial public offering in Korea by a U.S. company
  • Video City, Inc. in $16 Million sale of retail video stores to Blockbuster, Inc.
  • Red Mango, Inc. in connection with $12 million Series A Preferred Stock financing transaction with prominent private equity firm
  • Curexo Technology Corporation Series C Preferred Stock financing transactions with institutional investor
  • Video City, Inc. sale of all assets to Movie Gallery Inc.
  • MZ Group’s acquisition of Hayden Communications International
  • Consolidation of over 20 commercial real estate investments in U.S. on behalf of Hong Kong-based investor
  • Lead counsel for GameFactory, Inc., an online game company, in connection with Series A, B and C Preferred Stock financing transactions with venture capital firms, and licensing and procurement of various Korean online games

Mr. Kim’s representative technology/intellectual property transaction experience includes:

  • As the lead in-house counsel at LRN Corporation, instrumental in responding to RFPs and working through the procurement process and completing SaaS license and professional services transactions with over 50 of the Fortune 500 customers including Johnson & Johnson, DuPont, Ford Motor Company, The Dow Chemical Company and 3M Company.  Mr. Kim also took the lead in licensing content and other intellectual properties necessary to service LRN’s fast growing SaaS business.
  • Structured and completed customer license and services agreement for FaceFirst, a biometrics security company, including agreements with governmental agencies and national retailer
  • Lead counsel for NextGate Solutions, Inc. in connection with software license and professional services transactions with major hospitals and other healthcare organizations
  • Negotiated and closed patent license agreement between IBM and a medical device client
  • Lead counsel for AhnLab, Inc., Korea’s most prominent antivirus and online security company

Mr. Kim earned his JD from the Columbia University School of Law in 1994, where he was the Submissions Editor of the Journal of Transnational Law.  He earned a BS in industrial engineering and a BA in philosophy from the University of Washington in 1991 and was admitted to Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Honor Society).  He lived in Korea and Malaysia for seven and four years, respectively, and speaks and reads Korean.
